Coronavirus Statement

Our priority at this time is to protect our customers and staff, and we understand that some of our customers have had to make the decision to close their businesses, following Government advice.

We want to help in any way we can, so we are asking that any of our customers who are closed, or have plans to close, or reduce their opening times can let us know (by emailing sales@greencity.coop), especially if they have placed an order, so we can ensure that our operational support is up to date.

With the World Health Organisation (WHO) declaring a global health emergency, with the Corona Pandemic, we would like to reassure our customers that we are doing all we can to ensure continuity of supply, and health and safety for everyone. We have a business continuity plan and a Pandemic Leadership team is in operation, guided by NHS guidelines

  • All Greencity employees are complying with strict hygiene protocols, and anyone with flu like symptoms will be self-isolating.
  • We have cancelled business travel and asked all staff to limit personal travel where practicable.
  • We have the technology to enable our staff to work from home and remotely access our systems. We also are being robust and flexible to deploy staff to other areas of the business to limit disruption.
  • Our cleaning operations have increased throughout our headquarters and our vehicles.
  • We may have to limit some large orders from customers to manage our deliveries going forward
  • Our drivers will not be picking up any empty Bio D containers during this time, and we will not require you to sign for delivery, please just give the driver your name.

Can COVID-19 (coronavirus) be passed on through food?

Experience with SARS and MERS suggest that people are not infected with the virus through food. So, it is unlikely the virus is passed on through food and there is no evidence yet of this happening with COVID-19 (coronavirus) to date.

Coronaviruses need a host (animal or human) to grow in and cannot grow in food. Thorough cooking is expected to kill the virus because we know that a heat treatment of at least 30min at 60ºC is effective with SARS.

We will continue to monitor and review this situation to minimise the operational impact on our customers, by implementing service initiatives as the situation evolves.
